We Lived Our Life to Fullness . May be

How did one survive growing up in 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s? We had no seatbelts, no airbags and sitting in the back of a truck was a treat…

Our baby prams had the most gorgeous lead based colors...

No such things as tamper proof bottle tops…

Opening kitchen cupboards was a breeze…as safety locks were unheard off…

Cycling was like a breath or fresh air…

No safety helmets, knee pads or elbow pads, with plenty of cardboards between spokes to make it sound like a motor bike…

When thirsty we only drank tap water, bottled water was still a mystery…

We kept busy collecting bits & pieces so we could build all sorts of things…and we were fearless on our bikes even when the brakes failed going downhill…

We were showing off how tough we are. By how high we could climb trees &then jumping down, it was great fun. We could stay out to play for hours, as long as we got back before dark in the time of dinner. We walked to school, or sometimes we even road, our bike. We had no mobile phones but we always managed to find others…HOW? No one knows... We lost teeth, broke arms and legs, we got cut, bruises and bloody noses, nobody complained as we had so much fun. It wasn’t fault of anyone, only ours. We ate everything in sight, cakes, breads, chocolate, ice-cream, yet we stayed skinny by fooling around. And if one of us was lucky to find a 1 liter coke bottle we all had swag from it and guess what? Nobody picked up any germs. When we failed in our exams we were given a second chance by simply repeating the same grade again without visiting psychiatrist, psychologist or counselors. Such were the days we had freedom, success, disappointments and responsibilities. Most of all we learned to respect others. Are YOU from that generation? If that’s the case friends from the same era. May be this message will help you forget the stress around us these days. And just for few moments put a smile on your face.

And I sincerely wish that children should also have such golden moments in their era, to remember, as they grow down memory lane………someday………

As someone from the current era (:P) I dare say that we've also had our share of the lovely moments that you described above... however life is no longer as simple as before. There are more opportunities, for sure, but everything else has also increased proportionally like expectations, stress, commitments...

I'd like to still think that most of us are carrying on the virtues of the previous generation - in particular the one you mentioned, respect. It's just that those who don't share the same views, have now advanced means of getting their messages across... thanks to technology. And god knows how much the media loves to broadcast everything that is NOT good... perhaps we're getting a distorted view and worse, we're believing that is the reality?

Sorry it's becoming a blog post, I'll stop here :P But I do share your sentiment; I'd want my children to have those moments as well! Maybe instead of climbing trees, the little kiddos would remember the first cake they baked or something :P
